'I Emailed My Doctor 133 Times' Post Mortem Stream

Watching the original video made me realise how lucky I am to have been born in Australia. Transition here is a mix of public funding and out-of-pocket expenses but it only took ~4 months, two GP appointments, multiple psychologist appointments, a psychiatrist appointment, and two endocrinologist appointments to get onto HRT. In terms of public acceptance, my transition has been a fairy tale compared to many of the stories I've heard from other transgender people (online). I hope to knowingly meet another transgender person in person soon - feeling very alone where I live.

Ok, so super late here. But I did want to say thank you for your explination of systems and really everything in the video. It was highly educational to myself, and also to a very, very small point, I understood some of the frustrations (and frankly infuriatingmethods) of a system that claims to be there to help you, and just wants you to go away. And that system is the U.S. department of Veterans Affairs. Without going into details, I only struggled for 6 months trying to recieve care, before finally going private because my mind and body just couldnt wait for the system to decide I was worthy of care. I want to say thank you for really showing that the indifference of the system really does lead to death. So many post 9/11 vetrans die, due to self harm or lack of care (or poor care from an indifferent system), and most of them do it while on a waiting list. And its just a sea of paperwork, and confusing systems and processes, where the burden of understanding the best way to initiate and continue care is on the patient, and the system is designed in souch a way that the initial hurdle is: Are you a liar? Without taking away, or comparing the struggles of Trans persons (sorry if that is an incorrect designation, I am a cis male, so I apologize if that is callous, and am open to correction) to myself and other veterans (espescially since the large majority of them fall into the scope of privileged cis males) I just felt compassion for Trans people at the end of it. Both in the U.K. but also the U.S. I chose to be a soldier, I agreed under contract to endure the training and everything that came with it. And these unending hurdles and labyrinthine systems are bullshit for those of us who made a choice. Completely unacceptable for people who have none, and are just trying to survive as who they are. So thank you for educating me aboutthe struggles of the Trans community. Thank you for validating beliefs I had formed about a system I felt was trying to shove myself and fellow soldiers out of sight and mind so that society wouldnt have to face the reality of the situation. And thank you, for giving me an outlet to help argue that Trans people are being denied treatment and healthcare they need because of a terrible system, because its not the only system in healthcare, that is horribly broken. Like I said, for the Trans people here, that is not a comparison, my heart goes out to you, and I am sorry, its a horrible feeling and I hope we can do something to change the systems that effect us, together.

The downside of course in America is that entities are doing everything that they can to prevent us from knowing we need the resources that are actually moderately available to us…. The GP issue is pretty real here as well.

I think on the topic of transgender kids there's an interesting deeper conversation to be had about the philosophy of age and related topics like adult guardianship of people people with disabilities or dementia and how it effects our society's notions of who has personal autonomy over specific things, differing consequences for criminal justice (like forgiveness of minors), things like ability to give sexual consent, voting rights, educational policy and so on. The notion that childhood is this precious sacrosanct thing with the innocence of ignorance being something worth protecting at all costs is not a universal thing in our history or culturally universal. Childhood has entirely unique philosophies that govern it.

I watched the 2019 series of Catch-22 because of your video. A great series!! I really want to read the book now.

I can't really talk about why, let's just say a discussion involving it had been reported to us. I am now watching the post mortem with an extra eye open for anything relevant to the controversy.

I had to run towards the end of the stream but I really want to say thank you again for creating this video. I live in the US and have had very similar struggles with the health care system here. Have paid out of pocket for a lot of the necessary treatments I've received and have experienced a ton of discrimination and hate from healthcare workers so this video was particularly heart wrenching for me. I'm so glad it has had the traction it's had and that you are getting the recognition you deserve. You rock!

Finally managed to gather enough fee minutes at one time to watch. What a joy and a horror it was to watch; so very powerful! IMO, this is your best work yet (I've not yet seen your play but am eager to do so on CS/Nebula, for which purpose I signed up specifically). I'm left with nothing adequate to say but repetition: this was brilliant, every moment. I'm gobsmacked.
