Sneak Peak - 'How Police Make Up the Law'
Added 2023-07-25 16:26:03 +0000 UTCHello lovely Patrons!
I am hard at work on the editing of the next episode - I am aiming for a general release on the 4th of August though I've gotten tangled in a copyright issue and it might also depend on my filming dates for a TV show I'm doing...
Regardless, it's nearly ready! $15+ Patrons and Nebula Subscribers will get to see it as soon as it's finished

So excited to bring Trixie back, we really have fun with her in this episode!

Her updated look works so well on camera - Brian and I simplified things a lot and just went extra on the accessories

If any of you are fans of Helluva Boss there's a fun little background detail for you!

In fact, Morgana Ignis - who voices Sallie May in Helluva Boss - lent her voice to this episode too!

She's not the only guest: we'll also have a magical appearance from Devin, the host of LegalEagle!

I couldn't talk about the philosophy of law without consulting a real lawyer haha

We'll be going quite deep into the work of philosopher H.L.A. Hart: if any of you are philosophy of law students you'll know that name!

And we'll be talking about policing, specifically British policing which is different in some important ways from policing in the USA. I'm excited to discuss Tango Juliet Foxtrot, a memoir by a man named Ian Donnelly who was a British cop for 30 years

Accidentally captured this moment of me staring blankly into space lol

I think this outfit actually worked better horizontally than vertically

Editing this one has actually been a challenge. There are certain words I need to say that you can't say on YouTube without risking demonetisation or restriction, so I've had to cut around things.

I'm actually going to render 2 versions: the uncensored cut will be on Nebula. If you aren't on Nebula don't worry though: I've actually gotten creative with the YouTube cut, playing with sound especially, so you'll get a complete (albeit different) experience. You'll see what I mean.

2023-07-29 07:49:59 +0000 UTCWoo! I love it. But some minor corrections on US law: - The Constitution protects speech, but "obscenity" is one of the categories it *doesn't* protect - per case law, not blackletter law. That's also what Potter Stewart claimed to know when he saw. - The part about how defunding under austerity in the UK is different from defunding in US political dialogue was sad for a different reason: all those other social services which you listed as also having been defunded in the UK are basically nonexistent in the US. We're in the world where all of those aren't there and police response - typically violent police response - is the *only* response to things like homelessness, unemployment, drug addiction, and so on. ... Also, are those the same wings from the old Jordan Peterson episode?

2023-07-28 22:33:15 +0000 UTCI just finished watched this episode (loved it). It strikes me that many recent laws (and proposed laws) may be deliberately vague.
