BTS Pics: 'Can We Make Ethical AI?' - Day One

Hello lovely Patrons!

This week we are shooting the next episode of Philosophy Tube over two days in two separate venues: I decided to push the boat out a little! Yesterday was Day One, so here are some behind-the-scenes pictures from the set!

I called this look 'She's The Bomb!' There's a tech CEO called Sam Altman who keeps comparing himself to Robert Oppenheimer, so I knew I probably needed to do an Oppenheimer-inspired look but I didn't want to  be boring and just wear a suit, so...

I came up with the concept 'What if Oppenheimer's Bomb was A Sexy Lady?' and we kindof went from there!

Brian Conway returned to do the styling, and did an amazing job as usual!

It is pretty remarkable, especially with the white contacts

We'll be talking about all kinds of AI: not just artificial general intelligence but also surveillance software, text and image generators, and algorithmic decisionmaking

We'll also be talking about the time someone used AI to make deepfake porn of me, which was not a pleasant experience!

In particular I want to focus on the ethical dilemmas that AI throws up, and the question 'Can We Make Ethical AI?'

Nicki Buglewicz returned to do the hair and makeup: here she is helping me replace one of those amazing press-on nails that snapped off during filming

I've said it before but Nicki really is a genius. One of the looks required me to be covered in fake dirt...

Nicki sprayed me down with olive oil and then covered me in cocoa powder to get this reddish, muddy colour  and it worked so well!

The end result is one of my favourite looks we've done on the show in a while! I felt like we've done a lot of high femme glam this year and I wanted to do something simpler and different

I also want to talk about how AI is actually made: the physical processes like mining and transportation and data-labelling that help produce it. Kate Crawford's book will be a major source for that section

I brought my resistance band to set and was doing curls before getting on camera to make sure I was pumped up!

I've been working out a lot recently for a TV role (announcement to come next year!) and honestly I've never felt better about my body! It's so wonderful to rediscover the joy of the gym!

And yes, that is the same hammer from Transhumanism and Data - whenever it's time to talk about the philosophy of technology, the hammer comes out!

We'll be back on set tomorrow to shoot some very, very different looks! I'll have more pics from the set for you then!
