BTS Pics: 'Cities'

Hello lovely Patrons!

We wrapped on the next episode of Philosophy Tube yesterday! It's about urban design, and my working title is Cities (that won't be the actual title though). I've actually done three days of filming in London and Newcastle, and here are some behind the scenes pics from the London shoot!

We're going to be talking about both rural and urban spaces, so I wanted a country girl look haha

We'll be discussing some common myths about the countryside, as a warmup to get to grips with some of the concepts we'll need later

By the way, that's the same hat I wore when I played Jess in Sky/Netflix's Django!

I also deliberately designed this look to be  wholesome - I got some feedback last year that people find it tough to share the videos with other people if the outfits are too risqué haha

We'll also be talking about gentrification in some detail - one of my sources was this book by David Banks

Last time I highlighted the physical books I had read as research a lot more and people really liked it, so I'll be doing that again! This one by Steven Conn informed a lot of the first section of the video

Brian Conway and Nicki Buglewicz returned to do the styling and makeup, and did an amazing job as usual!

This video has a bit of a twist: partway through we change gears and learn about some quite different philosophy, and that required a very different look!

I called this look 'Phantom of the Phantasm' - Phantasm is a technical philosophy term we'll be learning

I'll briefly be referencing Judith Butler's new book Who's Afraid of Gender: both it and phantasms are going to tie into the next episode in a much bigger way!

All in all this was quite a challenging shoot actually. The venue wasn't properly soundproofed, despite being advertised as a filming space, and we lost a lot of time to waiting for background noise to stop. But we got everything we needed in the end, thanks to the hard work of the crew, and we had fun - so much fun in fact that for the first time in a while there's going to be a separate blooper reel along with the episode! I'll put it up for Patrons and Nebula subscribers once the video is out.
