BTS Pics - 'Judith Butler' Day One

Hello lovely Patrons!

I'm back refreshed from a little holiday and straight into shooting my next episode, working title Judith Butler. I'll give it a snazzier title when it's all coming together, but it's about Judith Butler's philosophy. Butler is famously difficult so I decided to dramatise some of it as a sort of Socratic dialogue and that's what we filmed today! The actual video essay segments of me explaining stuff will be shot over two days next week.

 The premise of this scene is I've gone back in time to have a little chat with my past self about some things,and it doesn't go well...

 My past self is played by the wonderful Rhys Tees, who you may remember played me in Identity!

 Rhys did an amazing job as always - he and I have been friends for years and he's a wonderful actor!

 My costume for this scene was designed by me! Brian Conway will be joining us next week to do some styling but I had a specific vision for this one so I just assembled it myself!

 We called this look 'Lesbian Fuckboi' - I assembled a mood board of mainly Kristen Stewart pics and raided my own wardrobe haha

 Rhys is actually a few inches shorter than me in real life so we had to find him a little stool to stand on!

 Here I am trying to make him feel better hahaha

 The scene we perform dramatises some of Butler's philosophy, as well as some of the ways in which people misunderstand or refuse to listen to it

 Hair and makeup for this episode is by Jenny Morrell, who did an amazing job considering all I sent her for references were a bunch of Kristen Stewart pics lol

We filmed with a three camera setup, cross shooting to get authentic reactions and also for the sake of time. We had two camera operators Mr. X and Mr. Y (who prefer to remain anonymous), and for the first time ever on Philosophy Tube we brought in a dedicated sound engineer - Charlie Hurst - just to make sure nothing could go wrong. I actually want to say how super grateful I am to you patrons: without your pledges we wouldn't have been able to bring in a pro like Charlie, so thank you! Your pledges will be on the screen, and in your ears!

 Awwww, happy ending!

This was a really lovely shoot, we actually finished ahead of time everything went so smoothly - and we had a full hour for lunch! I like to make sure the crew get a proper break period half way through the day, again, your pledges help make that possible. Thank you!
