For Traditional Festival of Paradise, all Danmaku!! expansions have gotten updates, and Mutiny of Belittled Spirits is no exception. This will also be many of yours’ first times seeing the Mob deck. I’m excited about the release, so let’s dive into it! Sorry for the repost I forgot your comics!
The Mob deck is a PvE expansion to Danmaku!!. These enemy cards show up and attack player, but can be defeated for their drops. It’s extra exchanges that cost bullets! When playing with the Mob deck, you add 2 new steps to the game. The encounter step comes after the incident step, where you encounter a mob and place it in the encounter area, and the attack step, where the mobs in the encounter attack according to their own rules.
Mobs come in 2 types:
Small-fry who may or may not attack you and give small benefits when defeated, but retreat at the end of the turn if they’re not defeated
Midbosses who are very likely to attack you, do not retreat, and even prevent other mobs from spawning.
Small-fry
Behold the humble Small Fairy! Here you can see all the parts of a mob card. Mobs have Abilities like player characters. Small Fairy’s is that she attacks on a Spring flip, and respawns whenever you encounter other Small-fry. All Small-fry have one card for each season, so if you have all 4 Small Fairies out, you are guaranteed to get attacked by one of them. For this version of the mob deck, we’ve doubled the number of small fairies. Make sure they don’t get out of hand.
Let’s look at Small Fairy’s friends!
The more powerful Sunflower Fairies are still easy to defeat, but they give you more benefit when you do so. They don’t respawn, so get those drops while you can!
Fairies love to cosplay! The Maid Fairies “work” at the Scarlet Devil Mansion, they aren’t paid except in cute clothes. I’m not sure immortal fairies need money anyway.
The Zombie Fairies live cosplay life on the edge. These goth fairies want to stay up late with all of their friends. It’s Stupid O’Clock and only your best friends (mobs) are invited.
The Small-fry aren’t just fairies though. Lunar Rabbits join the ranks of hapless mobs getting mowed down by OP protagonists. With their powers, your single danmaku turns into a double!
Kedama might be the weirdest mob. These little puff balls let you graze an attack and summon a mob to punish the attacker. This and the Small Fairies got their numbers boosted to 8 in this version, allowing players to opt-in to more mob encounters.
Yin-Yang orb may seem like an odd choice for a card. But if you go back these mobs are actually everywhere in Touhou. These are the weakest of assist characters, providing just a free attack every turn.
Midbosses
These mobs are ready to take that spotlight by force. Harder to take down than the Small-fry, they always attack and have Abilities of their own. Let’s take a look.
Aki Shizuha is a cutie, and has gorgeous art with her sister. Her attacks are not cute though. As the Symbol of Loneliness and Demise, her attacks prevent you from drawing when you’re hit by them. Defeat her though, and you can turn her power of changing leaves against your foes, forcing them to redraw their hand.
The Big Fairy on the Misty Lake, Daiyousei brings along a small friend when she is encountered. Defeat her and not only does she become your friend, she brings more friends every turn.
Goliath Doll is even bigger than Daiyousei. This midboss’ attacks deal 2 damage both to you and your enemies. Careful though, she could blow at any minute.
These midbosses are here to hurt.
The ancient rabbit, Inaba Tewi, is the white rabbit of good fortune. Tewi comes with a luck barrier that can be very difficult to get past. While effectively she has 4 life, you can’t predict when your attack will miss, and that uncertainty makes her a strong opponent. As an Assist Character, she brings you a random good fortune. Were you expecting a trap card?
Momiji is here to wreck everyone equally. Her giant sword cleaves through 3 players at once. Once she’s tamed she becomes a loyal canine who sniffs out danger and protects you from enemies.
Kisume is here for murder. Her sneak attack can’t be avoided, and on defeat she lets you murder mobs. She’s strong against Tewi!
Koakuma is here to read. This Devilish Tutor doesn’t want to be bothered, but lets you repeatedly draw from any deck. If you didn’t want to be bothered, Koa, why are you such a nerd!?
Medicine Melancholy has a sweet treat for you! Some players treat life as a resource, and will gladly drink the poison. Are you one?
Soga no Tojiko, a cheerful vengeful spirit (?) is here to break your stuff(!). You really don’t want to get hit by her, but defeating her gives you a repeatable Sealing Shot.
Mai & Satono are here to dance! The dancers bring a friend to dance with and let that friend take center stage. Are they secretly leading the mutiny?
Once defeated, they allow you to activate any assist character’s ability. Making them as strong as the strongest assist.
The following Midbosses come in sets. Each of them allows you to pull off a big combo if you have all three as your Assists. There’s a Fairy Exodia and a Prismriver Exodia.
The concept here should be apparent. You want to activate all three fairies and then smash the faces of your opponents with a single Danmaku. A recent change is that each one lets you draw a card as well, making it more likely you’ll get off that big danmaku.
For fun, I’ve made a hypothetical Danmaku card with all of the fairies buffs applied.

Rather than one Mega-Danmaku, the Prismrivers force opponents to dance till they drop. The recent change here was adding the attack to each prismriver so that they’re more useful more often.
For Patreon, previously we’ve published these extra Midbosses. Now they’re officially part of the mob deck!
Heroine Midbosses
All of these midbosses have an effect that happens when they’re defeated. This simple rule demands more consideration. That little bit of hesitation, that extra caution, the moment of decision. It's a delicious moment.
Hakurei Reimu and Kirisame Marisa both cause more incident to happen when they’re defeated. Reimu then gives you control over incidents while Marisa allows you to trade with other players without their permission.
Blue and Green heroines also get defeat effects and fun assists. Cirno is the 4th musketeer to the other 3 fairies of light. Konpaku Youmu lets all the ghosts out when she’s defeated. And Kochiya Sanae is tricky just like her character card.
Surprising Midbosses
All of these strong characters show up as Midbosses at one point and as full Bosses. Maybe they just want to play. If you shoot down Yuyuko, ghosts escape the underworld. Nue comes in with a disguise, her Assist is really fun, giving you a random extra character every turn. Kogasa shows up in a shower of danmaku! She can get you any card type you want, but she goes back into the mob deck when she does, ready to strike again.
