My grandma was a fat 90 yo. She lived to 94! She only lost weight the last 6 months of her life when her dementia took hold of her. I much preferred my happy, fat, mentally with-it grandma

2025-02-05 01:52:23 +0000 UTCMy aunt lived to be 99 and had oscillating between 300-400lbs since she was about 40. I swear her weight helped keep her going that long! She was just a couple months from 100 <3

2023-12-29 12:14:50 +0000 UTCI really want to say that my grandmother in law was a fat lady about town and she lived to be 90 and my theory is it was because she was fat right up until she got sick in her 80s

2023-10-31 13:45:18 +0000 UTCFunny story — I came out to my mom a few years ago and while she’s trying to understand and accept gay people, she has had trouble. After some discussion, she told me “I think the reason why I have had a thing against gay people is because the only gay person I interact with on a regular basis is that one obnoxious guy at work who always brags about vacations with his boyfriend that his parents pay for.” The guy’s name is Jeff. When I heard the segment at 27:50 I lost my mind — sent the snippet to my mom and she said she’s glad she’s not the only one who’s annoyed by Jeff 😭😭😭 btw things are cool now. My mom has a way to go but she is good at pronouns and regularly goes to local drag shows with me :)

2023-08-10 15:07:09 +0000 UTCI have diabetes and the fact that in that first story they say that there would be x% fewer cases of diabetes based on people's shopping habits is so bananas and reductive. Diabetes is such a complex disease and there are a huge number of factors that we *think* can cause onset, including genetics (the biggest one), stress levels, environmental factors, etc.
2023-06-07 19:26:25 +0000 UTCCan we stop referring to any kind of food as “junk”? That sounds like diet culture propaganda to me.

2023-03-30 15:59:49 +0000 UTCAgreed, I like the term “minority”…. I use it to describe myself as an ethnic minority member (in the US and elsewhere). Language evolves and changes over time. I don’t like the term “oppressed” - I find it to be patronizing, but ultimately Audrey and Michael are free to use whichever terms feel best to them.
2023-03-04 16:57:15 +0000 UTCthanks so much for explaining a concept I definitely didn't know anything about lololol. anywayssss I know that people have used it incorrectly and euphemistically. but I and many other """"minorities"""" take issue with it for a variety of reasons, including the fact that there are more accurate and descriptive terms like "marginalized," "oppressed" etc. I said what I said lol.

2023-02-07 13:17:38 +0000 UTCMinority has commonly meant two things, not just in regards to the actual size of a population, but rather the power that they hold. So for example women are technically the majority of most populations (51% to 49%) but they hold a minority of power. That's commonly what's meant when referring to people being a minority.

2023-01-07 11:44:19 +0000 UTCgoing to implore Michael to stop using the term "minority" as a replacement/interchangeably with marginalized/oppressed/etc. fat people are the majority of the US pop, non-white people are the majority of the global population, etc. not only is it incorrect, it's a useless diminutive. you'd be more accurate and show less bias by dropping it from your vocab.
