January Bonus: Erewhon Taste Test
Added 2024-01-31 08:01:01 +0000 UTCFrom its $22 smoothies to its celebrity clientele, Erewhon has become the go-to super-woo supermarket for America's super wealthy. But what's the story behind this pop culture punching bag? What does the name mean? And what do $14 kale chips taste like??

2025-02-04 16:15:53 +0000 UTCI had a near death experience thanks to this episode. I laughed SO hard, while taking a large swig of iced tea, that upon hearing you say βmalk,β I nearly choked to death. I love you both so much. If I do have to shuffle off this mortal coil, having Maintenance Phase be the last thing I hear would be an honor.

2024-06-22 04:56:52 +0000 UTCI genuinely adore that some folks who don't enjoy unexpected mouth sounds might have braved this out of love of the content only to be updated on the seeds' progress inside of Mike's mouth and being carried away by the elixir.

2024-05-29 17:09:48 +0000 UTCOx bile is actually an active ingredient in the only digestive enzymes that I've ever found to help. (Auto-immune illness with IBD as a comorbidity)

2024-05-20 14:20:22 +0000 UTCNo one asked butβ¦! If you want to overpay for groceries on the premise that some food is worth paying more for, you should consider a locally managed, collectively owned grocery co-op! Support local farmers and producers, not billionaires π

2024-04-10 05:45:52 +0000 UTCMichael! Both Gardisil and the shingles vaccine will absolutely make you feel like hell for days! If you have another dose to take, do yourself a favor and plan a few days off and space them out.

2024-04-09 04:48:18 +0000 UTCIβm not familiar with Erewhon as a ritzy shopper (or even a curious one!) but I used to work for a very small/niche vegan cheese company- I AM a bit more familiar with the concept of bigger companies buying out the little places with good βIPβand making it their own. This was a great episode! Thanks.

2024-03-09 23:30:33 +0000 UTCNot gonna lie, I still shop at Erewhon at least once a month. Their smoothies are the BOMB. I do wonder if the superfoods, etc. they put in them really work. I have some of their recipes make smoothies at home with just the basic ingredients. They kick ass. The strawberry glaze they make is literally strawberries, lemon juice and maple syrup blended together. It makes everything taste divine.

2024-02-04 04:49:00 +0000 UTCPlease know you two bring so much joy into my life! This ep was delightful
2024-02-04 03:55:24 +0000 UTCI mentioned upthread that my mother lived in the macrobiotic house in the late 1960s, in Cambridge. My favorite detail of her time there is that her mother, a Yiddish lady from the border region of Ukraine and Poland, used to call the house and upbraid Michio Kushi with a lot of Oy vey! Vhat are you doing to my daughter?! and similar, until one day when my mother happened to walk by and hear her mother's voice coming out of the phone. I appreciate the brown rice and miso soup and umeboshi I grew up eating, alongside the Jewish food that was our family's baseline. But macrobiotics seems one step away from an eating disorder to me. My mother tells me she used to occasionally see Michio Kushi in a diner, smoking and eating eggs & bacon. There's a depiction of a very judgemental French macrobiotic community in David B.'s excellent graphic memoir "Epileptic".
