Firefly REACTION | 1x08

I am in awe that this is only the 8th episode and it made me feel so much emotion for a ship... A SHIP...

Firefly REACTION | 1x08

Comments

Yeah, I get it. I wouldn't think it would take that long; Firefly is pretty popular, I'd be surprised if we take too long to get to the movie, I'd guess it would get strong support and make it through sooner than later. But yeah, as you said, it's a while away. She reacted to the pilot. But like I said, it's 88 episodes plus a two-part movie; I'm not gonna spend over 7 and a half years getting through the show, much as I love it. Especially since, as I said, it's a bit of a slow-burn. I've got Life to get through which is much more manageable (34 episodes? Even that's pushing it, I feel), plus Keen Eddie (13 episodes) and I probably want to hit an episode or two from a variety of other shows, like perhaps Reaper. I'm gonna do an ep of The Good Guys soon... I think Farscape (along with Veronica Mars and Psych) kind of need to be weekly, not monthly. Just too many eps to get through, and the show has too much energy and momentum to be once-a-month. (Well, Psych could work that way quite well, I guess; it's episodic so we wouldn't be left hanging like we would with Veronica Mars - which is episodic but also has a compelling season-long arc.)

While there are a lot of reactions to Firefly, I wanted to see a reaction from my favorite reactor, Ana. Which is why I snapped up the Binge watcher tier as soon as a spot opened up. I had been waiting a long time for it. I don't pay for any other reactors but I made an exception in Ana's case. As for the movie Serenity, that could be its own problem. I am not sure I can get it past a movie of the month vote, at least not in a reasonable amount of time. Since the show was cancelled and so many questions were left unanswered, the movie is more like a final episode that wraps up a lot of plot threads. Perhaps I can convince Ana to let it count as two months picks or give her some extra money. However that is a problem to deal with 6 months from now. :) If you are the same Eric that is also a binge watcher, why don't you request for Ana to react to Farscape? It looks like an interesting show and I would watch it. I just don't have time to start another series on my own and it isn't something my wife would want to watch together. However I would watch an Ana reaction to it.

Since you like backstories I figured you would love this episode. Some trivia, the part that broke was the one Kaylee mentioned to the Captain in the pilot that it needed to be replaced.

I'm gonna start by *kinda* talking shit on Firefly, but... bear with me. So, it's a good show, definitely a charismatic cast; I get why so many people enjoy it, and it being 13 episodes + 1 movie makes it a great show to recommend for reactions because it's not a huge time commitment and it hits the ground running (okay, the "talking shit" is the middle portion). BUT as a huge Farscape fan... man, the press Firefly gets, with the way *nobody* reacts to Farscape, is such a bummer to me. (Especially since Farscape had a big influence on Guardians of the Galaxy, a massively popular movie. I think I mentioned this before somewhere in the comment section of Ana's patreon; ditto how "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" is this relatively unknown gem despite it being the movie that, apparently, got RDJ the role of Iron Man. Why aren't people going back and finding these gems?) (To a much lesser degree: Brick? Rian Johnson is pretty hit-or-miss for me, but "Knives Out" was great. "Brick" is, to me, almost a lesser version, so it's definitely not a "you have to see it" movie, but if you loved "Knives Out", you'll probably at least like "Brick".) Firefly hits the ground running, with some of the crew having history (only the priest and the doctor are new?) while Farscape's crew have to learn each other's foibles, learn to appreciate each other... they grow together and we grow to care about them. So I get that it takes a while, but man, when it hits another level (mid season 2 through the end of season 3?) it's among the greatest you'll see. And it's not like it isn't good until then... it's not truly great, but it's between good and very good, I'd say. I've resigned myself to never really seeing any reactors watch it (FLG actually is at the moment; I don't mean literally "never", but... pretty much never), in large part because it's ~88 episodes then 2 movies which... once you get into it, that's a positive, but until you do, that's daunting, I get it. But every time I see people react to Firefly, a similar show, it bums me out anew that Farscape doesn't get any love. (Or Game of Thrones; not similar to Farscape, of course, but it's pretty fucking long yet every reactor watches GoT, which just gets worse and worse before ending by taking a massive shit into your eyeballs, while Farscape gets better and better.) ANYWAY... I'm also getting a bit tired of Firefly precisely because every reactor reacts to it. So I skip about half of the episodes. It won't shock you when I tell you: "Out of Gas" isn't an episode I skip. War Stories might be my favorite out of context; it's just really fun and funny. In context, Out of Gas is phenomenal; I just absolutely love the introduction to Kaylee, that's so damn perfect. It's so great that it's in the back half; given that money-people fucked with the order when it originally aired, I'm surprised they didn't try to make it the first episode since it's the introduction. That would've been a massive mistake; it works so much better when you get this after you've spent several episodes with the characters. (And I also very very much enjoy the final episode. "Am I a Lion?" I don't necessarily like that character as a person, but damn he's great *as a character*.)
