BoJack Horseman REACTION | 2x09 & 2x10

I know it sounds hollow to someone that doesn't know how to do it. But it is true none the less. Feeling good is an Option. And so is feeling Bad. Just try making yourself feel bad, its really easy. Funny thing, it also works the other way around.

Robert

The Point was, that many people are in this negative mental state for such a long time, that not feeling that way suddenly feels "weird" or not comfortable, to a point where these people end up being miserable just because thats how they have felt for such a long time. And it is especially these people that do not go to therapy because any hint of "improvement" scares them, so they rather convince themself that they are better off feeling bad than trying to improve their lifes. This comment was exactly for the people that think "Thats just who i am." and than chose not seek help, because they think feeling bad is just "their personality." And Yes, it is very important for people with depression, to learn, often times from their therapist, how to improve their Mood internally rather than using drugs, or other outside Influencers which in the long run won't change anything. Because depression is an internal problem, that everyone needs to overcome within. Depressed people have to learn how to be in a good mood. And yes, they usually need help for that, because they don't have the energy to do it alone. (And yes, i know that there is people with a chemical imbalance in their brain and they actually need medication, But out of all the people with depression 0.1% has an actual chemical issue, the rest is just conditional issues, developed over time.)

Robert

I think you misunderstood my point. I never said that the solution to depression is: "Choose happiness." As someone who has been in therapy for depression i know well enough.

Robert

That is at the very least a dangerous oversimplification. While it is certainly correct that many people overstate the importance of external factors for happiness, getting out of a depression is actually really hard and in many cases requires professional help over a long time. If you think “just choose happiness” does the trick, you’ve been quite fortunate.

I feel like a lot of people end up forgetting or maybe never realized, that happiness and "joy" to some degree are a choice. Obviously outside influence matters, you are not gonna easily choose to be happy a day after losing a loved one. But many people end up in this "hunt" for happiness in which they convince themself that Happiness is caused entirely by the world outside of you, then they find themself in a position where there is nothing that would actively prevent them from being happy, but they can not do it, because they forgot how to be happy. Our mood is not just influenced by the outside world, but just as much by our self's, at a certain point, you just have to choose to be happy. No matter where you are, a party, among friends, or family, you can still make yourself miserable. Many people grow so used to their own down trot and negative emotions, that it becomes harder and harder for them to let go of this negativity. If you were unhappy for such a long time, feeling happy suddenly feels not like yourself, and thus even if something makes them happy for a while they go back to their negativity, because that is what they know, that is how they feel comfortable because they got so used to feeling that way. The only way to get out of this, is to constantly remind yourself, that your happiness is also a choice. You can choose to be happy.

Suzy Cyde, my old friend. And the Rose colored glasses line was great. I hope these episodes are at least therapeutic for you because they do seem to hit you hard.

Topher 😃

Uh oh here we go with this story arc. I didn't like Wanda, and Bojack is right you have this idea of who someone is then you get to know them and it low key ruins your perception of them.

Haley Commet

That rose colored glasses/red flags quote. ❤️/ 💔
