Yes, we are getting near the end of the season unfortunately. The series was meant to go on for many seasons so when it was unexpectedly cancelled a lot of story threads were left open. The movie acts like a 15th episode and ties up some of the loose ends. Not sure if you noticed but many miss Jayne reading the letter from home and it mentioning him sending money to help his sick sister. It helps explain some of his money lust.
