Also, when I mentioned a pose doll, I really enjoy Easy Poser (it's a free app, need to use on a phone or tablet, ect)
I try to avoid flat images whenever I can since it can often feel unnatural since we don't view the world in 2D. However, they do look great for things like references or even simple commissions! Mix it up and see if you like it.
