Added 2018-02-22 02:07:44 +0000 UTCThe Dragon Seed paperback and ebook are about as done as I can stand. I can't believe it's only 7 days until it goes out. Even more unbelievable to me is how many pre-orders it has - 268 as of today! I posted the epilogue of Dragon Seed on Royal Road last night, which meant I could finally reward myself with two things: reading James Hunter's Viridian Gate Online, and purchasing RUINER, a cyberpunk action shooter I've had my eye on for about a week now.
One of the things I've taken away from VGO and other LitRPGs I've been reading is that I need to not be afraid of fluff. As a thriller writer, my instinct is to slash a story to the bone - no tangents, no filler, just a driving emergency and high-speed series of events from start to finish. The challenge is finding a way to write this stuff and have it not be dull, and to also loop it into the main plot.
My series probably needs more fluff - Hector training his skills, Hector and Karalti training together, etc. I'm wondering how to do this without having the novel drag.
Gotta try and work on Trial By Fire, but just had a messy breakup with a girlfriend and am completely exhausted. Still, if I can write one chapter a day every day for a month, I will have a second book well before the publishing date (29th May).
Tangentially, RUINER is a great game. A+++ soundtrack.
