And it was pre-empted often for sports events, plus any promos made for the show didn't really give us a good idea what the show was about... It was underhanded punishment for Joss NOT making the show FOX wanted. Here's the thing I believe though: If they had just supported Joss and stood by him, they would eventually have been over the moon for his show, because it really WAS what they wanted, just it was a slow burn to get there. I even think if it had gone 2 more seasons, it might have been SO big that Universal's BSG would've been postponed at least; because they would've had to compete with Joss' masterpiece. ...Of course all that last paragraph is conjecture.

As was stated above this was the pilot, but Fox didn't want to show it first and wanted something more action packed so the next episode was shown first and this one later (which made it very had to follow at first). Definitely one of the best shows to ever fall to the Fox cancellation curse.

When the new solar systems were terraformed, the dominant old Earth cultures were Western (e.g. the U.S./Britain/Etc) and Eastern (e.g. China/Japan). So the language in the show is a bit mixed. So the Chinese/Mandarin outbursts tend to be them swearing in a way that was acceptable to the TV censors at the time.
