Firefly Episode 4 Full Length Reaction (Hannah and Toy)

There is a bit of a discussion at the end of the video and I am quite curious of all of your opinions. :)

I think I will too... You really threw me with this one tho... Like ol' chucklebuns (really?? lol), I have also seen A LOT of full reactions to this show, at least 7 other creators. c-buns (lol) is right that none of the others that I have seen had your rather positive reaction to Atherton. Wow. Also Wally has a point that you missed several pertinent lines of dialog. Possibly you've re-watched the show? (it' is SO worth it!) And idk if this even matters, but this is one of only two Firefly eps written by a woman (War Stories is the other but different woman). Maybe ask Jane Espenson what she was thinking with this one. I haven't seen all the different combinations of you ladies yet, as I am a newb here. So far though, I am enjoying you two, Hannah and Toy.

2024-01-25 17:41:56 +0000 UTCI think the thing that kind of got lost in the episode is where Mal says he dishonored her profession, but not her. He respects her and because he doesn't think highly of the profession seems to believe that she is too good for that profession and how he believes those other guys view her (as Atherton did, a piece of property). Not saying it is a good way to be with it. Jealousy is never a good thing. And although Mal feels like he is making it clear how he feels for her and separately how he feels about her profession, he fails to notice how his comments clearly make her feel. So I understand, you feelings about the Mal/Inara dynamic, but I hope as things progress it became a bit less cringe in its execution for you. Also I met the actress that plays Kaylee (who has become continuously beautiful over the years) and she is also very sweet. Adam Baldwin (Jayne) and Alan Tudyk (Wash) are also very nice, funny people in real life as well when I met them.

I will agree that Mal acts out emotionally because of his jealousy and that's not cool at all. Even so, I've NEVER seen a less charitable interpretation of his actions. I've never seen anyone who didn't hate Atherton by the end of the ball. And I've certainly never seen anyone actively root for Atherton in the final fight lmao Loving the reactions, though! Very curious to see if your opinion of Mal and Inara's relationship changes moving forward.

Yes, it's obvious they have something between each other, but I'm pretty sure he met her while she was already doing what she does. So he already knew and it's her choice yet he still talks to her like she's nothing but still wants her. It sounds toxic, not compassionate. Mal talks down about her any chance he can get, yet thinks it's good for her, whereas the other guy yes saw her as an object but one he wanted by his side. They are both wrong. Its also hard to watch her as a character being treated like this for so long. It seems she only gets a break when she does something for Mal. Other than that, God forbid she walks near him, or even worse, has her own opinion. Mal's work is also not the best, perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black. Imagine for just a moment that it didn't matter what people did for a living and this was your daughter and someone she was dating. You would load the shot gun quicker than we could shoot the comments. Only time will tell if the relationship between will change our minds. But right now, not a fan of how he talks to her. No one should be treated that way. I think the way we feel is just and it's not ok to treat people bad and say "oh it's because they like you". That also confuses children to grow and think love is abusive.

2023-06-02 00:13:44 +0000 UTCI think you two missed a few things in this story between Mal and Inara. In case it was not obvious, Mal likes Inara and Inara likes Mal, but they are not willing to acknowledge each others emotions towards each other, I think this becomes a little clearer in later episodes. Mal was feeling jealous of Inara sleeping with other people because he likes her, this caused him to act out in inappropriate ways, but I'm not sure where you two got the impression from that Mal was trying to possess her? It was the opposite, Atherton was trying to possess her and that became obvious through his jealousy towards Inara+Mal. Mal acknowledged as such when he said "I have no right to make you and you have a right to get a good life..." but then asking her still not to go, he was basically saying, "I am acknowledging that I have no right to posses you and make you stay but I am asking you to stay anyway". In comparison, Atherton was unwilling to let her go and tried to punish her when she left. Both Atherton and Mal acted inappropriately because of their Jealousy, but Mal did not really try and possess her and Mal sort of acknowledges this later, saying that he should not do it again and stay out of her world/business. Now Mal does not like the companion industry, which is his right to feel that way, and he does like Inara and does not want to see her being in that industry, but acknowledges that he does not have a right to stop her. I see nothing wrong with this. Whereas Atherton does like the companion industry, he is a customer, but does not really see the right of Inara, he thinks that she is just a piece of property not a human offering a service. Also, Inara is still a companion, she has not stopped and continues to see clients, I think you misunderstood this.
