Firefly Episode 5 Full Length Reaction (Hannah and Toy)

We left off with Toy and Hannah being less than pleased with the way Mal treated Inara in the last one. Let's see where their relationship with this character goes from here... ;)

Hanna for the WIN! (what do I mean?) As soon as this ep started, I immediately asked myself: Who will be the first to say, "Is that Zack Efron!?" You go, Hannah! My theory (remember this is just theory!), shared by some Browncoats is that Simon's & River's parents actually SOLD their daughter to the Alliance (actually to Blue Sun Corporation which has fingers in every part of 'Verse life, including the Alliance itself). Her parents were already noticing River's 'talent' and were growing afraid of her, and this new 'Academy' looked like a good way to wash their hands of her while appearing to be looking out for River's best interests. The Academy was "...government sponsored..." but surely it was administrated by Blue Sun. They were looking for people that might have special or paranormal abilities. "...She was more than gifted. River was a gift... ...There was nothing that didn't come as easily to her as breathing does to us." Think about that statement. Anyone like that has potential to be more dangerous (and/or more 'useful') than anyone in the 'Verse. It is her paranormal telempathic (maybe I made that word up but it fits) abilities that allow her to pick up things in mere moments, like any dance or skill you could teach. I should have more on this theory as the episodes progress... I know you Hannah and Toy have finished the show, but you never know when someone will cry, "Spoilers!" LOL Almost forgot this fun fact, since at some point with either this or the last episode, one of you said River is talking a lot more now: In THIS episode, Summer Glau as River Tam does not have a single spoken line. It's the only ep in which she does not speak at all.

2024-01-25 19:22:32 +0000 UTCRead 'The Shepherd's Tale' Story by Joss and Zack Whedon, Dark Horse Books, Serenity Comics Vol 3, 2010. (or graphic novel if you prefer) Joss had the basic idea, his brother wrote it into a cohesive story. Extremely interesting read!

2023-12-10 08:14:46 +0000 UTCChristianity has been around for 2000 years and Judaism has been around for even longer than that, yet there are religious sects of both that have beliefs that we consider irrational. Therefore, it shouldn't be a surprise that some people hundreds of years in the future will still have equally ridiculous religious beliefs.
