Right on with the "some kind of parallel" statement. River read Jayne's mind from the moment after she woke up and said, "Copper for a kiss?". She knows what he did and his whole plan when you see her head move and expression change, but then Simon starts coughing and then River starts puking. When the three are on the bench after getting pinched, River is reading Jayne's mind again and taking something from his memory that closely parallels this situation. It's also TEASING Jayne, something River does throughout the show if you are paying attention. Final scene in 'Safe' around the dinner table, she steals Jayne's bread. There are other examples. I always turn a comment into a novella so 'nuff said. LOL

2023-12-10 11:40:06 +0000 UTCJayne saying "Don't tell them them what I did" is what saved his life. He finally showed that he was ashamed. This combined with Jaynestown showed that he wants to be well thought of. He just has difficulty actually DOING what he needs to do to be well thought of. Also, when he was in the morgue, he was looking into one of the little pods where bodies are placed. He is extremely brave while also being scared of death (e.g. the Reavers). I wish we got more backstory about him that would explain that contrast. Lastly, Jayne is obsessed with money, as we know. However, if you paid close attention to something he said in the background during the episode "The Message", you would get a hint about why that is the case. Jayne is the most complicated character in the show, which is ironic given that, on the surface, he's just the muscle and initially appears to be a one-dimensional character.
