Definitely felt the same was as Hannah when I watched this in theaters. The show ended too early and this movie killed off both of my favorite characters too (thankfully my next favorite, Jayne, survived). Really loved how emotionally invested you ladies were in this one and how genuine your reactions are.

People who watch enough films always assume their favourites aren't at stake: why would they be? This is a show and your character always lives happily ever after. But what makes Firefly and Serenity feel so genuine is the dynamics between characters and the sense these people are real. If they make the wrong choice they die. If they sit still and do nothing they die. It hurt me when Wash died but in retrospect its the right choice for this ENDING. Firefly is never coming back. We would love to imagine a show with 7 seasons where Wash and Zoey have adventures. But this is it. I respect that Whedon made meaningful choices that create stakes and force us as viewers to feel. That's Art! That's also why he killed Quicksilver brutally and without fanfare; he knew for the larger narrative the audience needs to see heroes die, even randomly. Every other death in the MCU is part of a grand narrative. But life isnt always like that.

As for River, they didn’t implant the Miranda memory in her, she gathered it from the members of Parliament since she is a reader. And maybe you’ll take some small comfort in knowing that Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk often joke about Wash’s demise when they’re doing public engagements. It doesn’t ease the overall pain of Wash being gone but the entire cast’s bond which still persists today helps give back that sense of family all of us Browncoats have thanks to Firefly. Thanks for your awesome reactions to the series and movie, it’s been shiny!
