Announcement/Discussion Regarding Vainglory and My Future Writing Plans.

Part 1 - Why I'm putting Vainglory on hold:

Hi everyone! As many of you know, a few months back, I started posting chapters for a side project I'd been working on for fun, a series I had in mind called Vainglory. In my head, this sounded like a great idea; I was already writing during my "free" time (Saturdays), so why not deliver a chapter a week to my readers? Of course, at that point, I already had 20 or 30 chapters saved up, so I also figured I'd start posting it to RR, too.

Well, when your "free time" writing becomes expected, then something about its relaxed, fun nature goes away. I now feel like I don't have a single day to relaxβ€”M, W, F is Cyber Dreams, T, THU, SUN is Victor of Tucson, and SAT is for Vainglory.

On top of the lack of time to relax every week, I find that my writing is suffering a little, especially on Vainglory. When I only pick it up once a week, after spending time thinking about Victor of Tucson and Cyber Dreams, minor character details tend to fade away from my memory, plot holes begin to develop, and, overall, a project I'd been excited about and sort of proud of, begins to lose its polish. I'm not loving that.

So, I've decided that I'm going to put Vainglory on hold and approach it when I reach a good spot in one of my other series to put that one on a break. Which leads me to the discussion about my future writing plans:

Part 2 - My future writing plans:

I think that I want to have two days a week where I'm not "required" to turn in a chapter anywhere. I also believe that my writing will be better if I focus on one narrative at a time. Here's my current idea, but, of course, I'm open to feedback; nothing's been decided for certain yet:

1. Finish book 7 of Victor of Tucson and book 5 of Cyber Dreams with my current schedule.

2. Choose either CD 6 or VOT 8 to write next. Write 5 chapters a week, Mon-Fri, until that book is done, then write the one I didn't pick, 5 chapters a week, Mon-Fri, until that book is done, then go on to the next book, and so on.

Here's the problem: Not all of you read all of my work. Some of you are just here for Cyber Dreams or VoT, or heck, I might have a few people hanging around for Vainglory.

PROS:

1. You'll still be getting almost the same amount of content every year as you would with my old schedule (5 writing days a week as opposed to 6.)

2. If I'm writing a book you're interested in, you'll get 5 chapters per week rather than 3.

3. I love to write; I'm likely going to keep writing on Sat and Sun, but without pressure, I won't feel stressed about it. This translates into another book or two per year that I can get done.

4. My writing for each book will be of higher quality.

5. I won't lose my sanity or get burned out.

CONS:

1. If you aren't interested in the book I'm currently writing, that's a couple of months of my content that you won't care about.

The obvious solution to this con is to unsubscribe from my Patreon while I'm working on a book you aren't interested in. Of course, as a person trying to survive off my writing, this is a scary prospect for me - Regardless of intentions, it's a simple fact that some people will never make their way back here when I start writing the book they're interested in again.

This has been in my mind for a while now, and I've tried to think of a good solution, but you can see I don't have a magic fix. I'm open to opinions, ideas, anything.

Thanks,

Plum

Comments

I'm happy to share that I don't have any super secret. I just have a routine of writing every day and I think my words flow out faster than some people. It's not like I'm doing a chapter every two hours, though - more like 6 to 8. If I were still working my old job, things would be a bit slower. It helps that I've had a lot of jobs I hated, and when I start to struggle a little with my writing, I think about going back to jobs like that, and it suddenly feels easier again. :) Thanks for your support!

I think someone else already said it, but you write at a really good pace and post more frequently than most other authors (except for the ones who have super short chapters and arbitrarily cut chapters as soon as they hit their word count which is lame). I'm curious to hear how you've managed to keep up such an intense pace for so long actually, if you felt like sharing! I hope that you're not burning out! I'm late to your post and saw something about a poll already but just to throw another idea out there: abandon all forms of enjoyment and adult life and only write cyber dreams, and I'll just give you all my money and go live under a bridge. jkjk--whatever you pick I will not unsub, stay healthy.

uhhhhhhhhhh...

Iβ€˜m here for cyber dreams. Not sure how long I would stay subscribed if there are no new chapters. Maybe alternate? 3 chapter / 2 chapter and switch next week.

This is a good point

I don't know how you managed three separate universes at the same time at all. But I wouldn't mind the change. Granted I'm reading both Victor and Cyber Dreams so I'm not really impacted, but you write so quick we won't really be without the other for all that long. If it improves the books, I'm all for doing what you need.
