Okay, so a kind reader very astutely pointed out that Victor should probably have improved some of his skills in this book. I've gone through and picked three skills to upgrade, and I could have done more, but I think I'll find a nice excuse to have Victor work on skill and spell upgrades in book 8.
So, here are the three I added:
In chapter 11, after the demonstration against the Energy tanks, Victor will get Alter Self from basic to improved.
**Alter Self – Improved: You have mastered the magic necessary to change an aspect of yourself, reducing your physical size and mass. This spell will last as long as you supply it with Energy, though it will reduce your maximum Energy pool so long as it is in effect. Due to the spell’s reduction of your Core’s potential, you’ll find that your other abilities and spells are similarly reduced in efficacy. At the improved level, this spell can alter you further from your original size and shape while having a reduced impact on your total Energy. Energy Cost: Variable - 5000 minimum. Cooldown: Long.**
In chapter 44, after he beats Dovalion (the armored guy), he'll gain Imbue Spirit improved.
**Imbue Spirit – Improved: You are able to imbue an object or individual with a shard of your own spirit, granting some of your own power and will to the recipient. At the improved level, the granted boons are larger. This effect will last until you recall your spirit shard. Energy Cost: Variable. Cooldown: Long**
In chapter 47, after he unleashes the Aspect of Terror, he'll gain Impart Nightmare - Improved.
**Impart Nightmare – Improved: While wearing your Aspect of Terror, using gathered fear-attuned Energy, you can corrupt the spirit of another being with a seed of fear, sending it to dwell in their Core where it will grow and fester. This ability will fail upon those whose will can resist your intention. As you improve your mastery of this spell, it will become harder to resist and spread its roots more rapidly. Energy Cost: Minimum 100, scalable. Cooldown: Dependent on harvested fear.**
That's it for now. Honestly, I feel like his Banner of the Champion should have ranked up in book 6, and I wanted to give it to him here, but it seemed off that it would rank up while he used it for a few minutes as opposed to using it for an entire war. I think I'm going to have to come up with a lore reason for why it hasn't gone up yet.
Thanks!

2024-04-02 21:20:57 +0000 UTCFWIW you’ve done a graceful job at devoting a fair bit of book 7 to plot development, while giving us character development/ power up junkies something to celebrate. Looking forward to book 8!

He might not be as smart as his niece, but he has learned a lot about energy patterns, and has mentors. It makes sense if he needs to take some time to actually consolidate his knowledge and experiences to push those skills to the next level.
