Target Audience for My First Game

I previously gave information about the game I was working on in this post ( https://www.patreon.com/posts/1-1-scale-open-104162095 ) .

But while working on it I noticed something. There is no game that uses the full potential of high-end computers.

I like to play a game where I drive and chill in a big open world and I want to have the best graphics as much as I can get. But I can't find a game like this.

Sure I can do that in ETS2/ATS and I can literally play at 8k resolution (4k + 400% resolution scaling) @120fps with max settings on RTX 4090 but it looks so bad. 4k @60fps is enough for me but give me the best graphics I can get.

Most of the time game companies do not target high-end computers but they like to target most of the players. As result these games have lower quality and fidelity graphics for high-end computer potential.

So I want to switch target audience for my first game to high-end computers. I want to use Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen (new global illumination tech. with lower cost, helps a lot to improve the lighting realism) and Nanite (rendering highly detailed objects with lower cost, helps a lot to improve realism and fidelity).

This is going to reduce the development time a lot. Also finally I can play a game I like with full potential of my hardware :( I hate looking at environment in ETS2/ATS.

First I want to publish the game for high-end computers, then I want to make lighter version later and publish for low-mid range computers.

It is an open world driving game with different vehicles. Simply, chill & drive. And there will be some missions like in ETS2/ATS or Bus Simulators etc.

I am going to focus on realism and a good dynamic weather system with a lot of interaction with the environment so you can feel like driving in real conditions. But it will be only for high-end computers.

Edit:

Also I am thinking about removing the sun from the game :D What I mean is weather always will be moody, rainy, snowy etc. Because using sunlight has a lot of disadvantages. Like:

- Negative affect on performance, +1 lighting calculation and shadow calculations (big)

- Nothing is moving, not dynamic enough

- Environment looks same almost all the time (conditions are always same)

- Its impossible to make a good looking environment with sunlight same as without sunlight because foliage is not detailed enough

Sure sunlight also helps to feel different vibes but if we are trying to Min/Max everything to get best possible result I feel like avoiding sunlight is a good choice in this case.

Edit 2:

I think I will focus on snowy environment for first release and it will be all snowy environment. I will try to make it realistic and dynamic as much as I can. Its not hard to guess why when you read my name :D

I want to make both physics and graphics realistic, thank you a lot <3

Snowy Moon

The realism you seek will be mostly graphics-wise? I find ATS/ETS2 to lack realism in the feeling, the physics and the details of how a truck should behave and feel, like the flawed way they handled torque and hp, making the truck too fast going 0-60 in a few seconds or being stuck in a hill because you decreased its power. Also the lack of some aspects like the real simulation of splitting gears, rev matching, being able to float gears realistically and other details as such that increases the immersion a ton. So I want to know if you plan to seek realism all around or it will be focused mostly on the graphics. Thank you very much for your contributions to the community sir.

Sorry :(

If you can do TAA for Automobilista 2 I will donate 10 euro's :D

Hello, Snowy Moon. I come from China, so my English may not be very good. Please forgive me. The TAA anti aliasing of ETS2 you made is very good, and I can hardly see any aliasing on my 2K monitor. But recently when I was playing Forza Horizon 4, its anti aliasing is very poor, and the shadows are not updated in real time. May I ask if you can create a TAA anti aliasing plugin for FH4? Thank you

OK MERCI

TAA/TAA Clarity or DLAA is best for you, you should try and choose one because everyone has different taste

Snowy Moon

Good morning? a quick question: which settings is best for ets2 the TAA, DLAA or DLSS?? My configuration is: "AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor, 32G ram, 3060TI 8g graphics card. THANK YOU for your response.

Optimization is pretty bad on both CPU and GPU for ETS/ATS :(

Snowy Moon

As bad as ETS/ATS grfx are - its still a struggle in VR
