With our complaints about the thematic premise of the Ova out of the way it's time to enjoy how incredibly cool it is when two grizzled vets (presumably 26 and 31) stand on top of a mobile suit and throw a cigarette off in stoic preparation for their upcoming hollow sacrifice.
It's extremely cool.
