When is a game not a game?

For me the answer is, "when its a visual novel".

I want to start by saying I have the upmost respect for the creators of and the content of visual novels.. But they are stories not games.

This is an important factor for me when it came to the design of my game. It had to be a game.. infact, to take it one step further, it had to be a sandbox game.

When gaming, I struggle to enjoy "railed" games. These are the games where basically speak, you start, your progress through the story, making the odd decision which does not have an impact on the destination and end the game in the same way as everyone else. Ok, maybe you got to pick and choose if you did some, none or all the of the side quests, but in the end it was all the same.

My ideal game is open world, with many quests, interaction and adventures.. and you can completely choose what you want to do. Yes, some quests require a previous quest.. but this is how life works.

So follow your own path.
