Update Due to Updated Guidelines

Hey, everyone.

So, as some of you may or may not have noticed, I’ve had to prune and edit some of the content on this page, to stay in compliance with the recently announced updates to Patreon’s content guidelines.

I’ll get into the details in a moment, but first, I want to give a giant thanks to everyone reading this. As ever, I really appreciate you all choosing to be here. You’re the ones giving me the hope I need to keep going as I devote more of my life to this bizarre but wonderful endeavor.

Over the next month or two, I plan to focus a lot of my efforts on some more subscriber-exclusive stories for posting here, as a thank-you, and hopefully, as some consolation for the disruption.

Okay, details time:

Most notably in the new guidelines, Patreon no longer allows creators to post erotic content involving imaginary sentient creatures, unless everyone involved in the sexual interactions is of the same species. They’re also eliminating a lot of power-play themes, including stories about enthusiastically consenting participants responsibly playacting coercive fantasy scenarios.

Patreon has not contacted me directly about any of my content, but I really want to stay here, so this is me proactively trying to stay on the ball, and crossing all my fingers that I’m doing an adequate job of it while doing right by everyone.

To that end, I’ve removed several stories.

Which brings me of course to the big questions:

What about CFL?

What about BPC?

I get how important these are to people, especially BPC, and I want to do what I can to keep them hosted here.

Obviously, this is a challenge. These stories have themes of power at their cores. Beyond just being a string of kinky erotic interludes, I’ve been so happy to find them evolving into explorations of the nature of all manner of human power dynamics — gender constructs, capitalism, peer pressure, tradition, the exploitation of love and friendship — all filtered through the lenses of those kinks.

So, I’ve gone through and done my very best on short notice to strike a balance between following the rules and preserving the spirit of my open series:

· The text now puts more emphasis on how, while the characters may all be trapped in repressive dystopian universes together, what sexual contact they do get is something they choose and enjoy.

· When there are additional factors affecting a character’s choice to engage in sexual contact beyond their own pleasure, they’re pursuing something extra they desire, rather than trying to avoid some kind of threat/loss.

· For some of the roughest and most emotionally fraught plot-essential scenes (such as Deacon’s interrogation), I’ve added extra moments of character choice, where the character could freely walk away and go about living a perfectly normal and okay life (by their universe’s standards), but they instead knowingly choose to stay and enter into the scene for their own reasons.

· I’ve also removed depictions of encounters that the characters were less than enthused for (think Artemis’s grudging handjob). Those scenes were always spurred more by intuitive plot turns than by desire on my part, and showing them in detail was mainly a convention of the genre, so I don’t consider skipping those to be any great loss.

Honestly, I’m much more saddened by the amount of weirdness I’ve had to remove from my catalog overall, rather than the loss of a few moments of meanness.

Naturally, I’m pretty bummed by the overall kink-unfriendliness of the updates. I could philosophize at length on this topic, but this post is already going to be long enough.

And of course, at the same time, I do have to sympathize with Patreon. Most of their community guidelines are good-hearted and sensible efforts to keep their platform from being used for harm. And I know there are a whole lot of abusive, predatory assholes out there trying to camouflage and justify themselves under the cover of kink. I know they’re the ones I should be upset with, for making it so difficult to maintain non-toxic kink-friendly spaces.

It’s a lot to juggle, especially for a platform that wasn’t conceived as a dedicated adult site. I do appreciate that Patreon has had the courage to acknowledge the adult content community that’s developed here, and hasn’t just tried to purge us as so many other platforms have.

And if there are going to be additional restrictions, I would rather they be clearly laid out as they are in the new set of guidelines, rather than the usual vague bans on “obscenity” or “vulgarity” that so many sites apply at the random, inconsistent whims of their mods.

So, the bottom line is, while this page will no longer be a complete source for every Kathryn Locksley story ever written, it will still offer early access to every new story that is, as best I can gauge, permissible here (which will still be the majority of them), plus all the other perks you’ve come to expect – including my particular appreciation.

With love to you all,

-Kathy
