Update on iOS fees
Added 2024-08-12 19:25:19 +0000 UTCHeads up to all the Apple-using folk out there: if you’re considering subscribing to my Patreon, or any Patreon, for that matter, you’ll probably want to do it before November, or use some method other than the iOS Patreon app.
Starting in November, Apple is requiring Patreon to eliminate all payment options on the iOS app except for Apple’s in-app purchase system, which charges buyers an extra THIRTY percent fee.
So, if you’re browsing Patreon on the iOS app, you’re going to see prices suddenly increase in November. That’s not my choice, or any artist’s choice, or Patreon’s choice – it’s Apple’s, and that money will go to them.
Existing patrons won’t be affected by the change, although I’m guessing that might change if you try to upgrade tiers after November.
Anyone not using the iOS Patreon app will be unaffected.
Patreon just notified creators this morning, and I wanted to pass it along to as many people as possible (hence the public post) so everyone can plan!
