10 Useful Games I Can't Get Rid Of

Comments

I am new here, thanks for the nice video! We really find Dixit a useful game to get out and play with all kind of groups.

Cornelieke van Steenbeek

Probably my most useful game has been Bohnanza. It works well with my heavy, competitive groups, who are liberal with table talk and negotiation, as well as lighter groups, who mostly treat it as an friendly activity. Though it is a tad long for a filler game.

I really dislike anomia. The quickest person wins and if you are not quick then you just sit there feeling stupid all game. Check out This That and Everything for a similar game that just feels much more fun.

I haven't noticed it - but I'm not sure I'm in the right place to notice! I bet board game cafe workers would have a good answer for you :)

@Jon: You mentioned that people don't always like the Pandemic theme, which I guess has always been a thing to some extent, but it made me wonder, have you noticed any difference in how people react to that theme now vs before the Covid pandemic? Thanks for the great video! ❀️ (Edit: Oh, other people are also welcome to share their experience of course! 😊)

We have found over the years that (No Thanks!) is always easy to get to the table and everyone has fun. It usually takes a round or two before people figure out how to pass to collect more tokens (We call them dingle berries because we are not right in the head). It's relatively quick and always a fun time.

My useful games: 1) Flamme Rouge with the Peloton expansion, which adds two more cycling teams. Plays up to 12 if each player controls one cyclist, easy to learn and play, and there's no dead time. 2) Mysterium. Great for a group that wants to converse between turns, because it's an easy enough concept as long as you have an experienced ghost, and I always play the ghost. The psychics can talk while I pick vision cards and it isn't difficult to jump back in once it's time. Plays up to 7. 3) 6 Nimmt, aka Take 5. Plays up to 10 and hits that "Uno-like" spot that makes game skeptics willing to play. 4) Sagrada. Very simple puzzle game that is super accessible, especially for younger gamers, probably down to 7.

Forbidden Island is my go-to for introducing people to co-op games. It's always a winner. Plus I never have to refer back to the rule book, even if it has been awhile since my last play.

Janet Morris

Great list! I'm holding on to Forbidden Island as well for the exact same reason, even though I have Desert. Same with Ticket to Ride US even though I have Europe. The first game in each of those is just a bit simpler and easier to digest for newer gamers and/or family. That said, I still hold on to Lords of Waterdeep even though I have a few other worker placement games I like better. It's just a theme that people seem to understand a little easier (gather workers to complete quests). Everything is easy to understand and the cards are quick and easy to read and digest. Also, it was one of the first games I introduced friends too, so it has the nostalgia hook in me as well.

One of my favorite board games and intro game I keep around is Mord Im Arosa.

Yojimbo Takashi

my most useful game is the print and play version of phantom ink, its a party games that requires very little space

Jesco Puluj

awesome video:) unfotunately mafia de cuba is out of print

I'm hoping to find a game in here that can do things like mow the yard or tighten up the assembly of the bathroom doorknob - useful things!

So you get board games out at weddings?
