Michael Jackson was so impressed by Rick Baker's work for this film that he asked Rick to do the transformation and make up effects for his Thriller music video. Did you notice every song played in the film has the word moon in it? Frank Oz, who voiced Yoda, played the U.S. embassy official who was scolding David for being hysterical. Griffin Dunne, who played Jack, had a sister Dominique Dunne who played Carol Anne's older sister in Poltergeist (1982). She tragically was strangled to death by her ex-boyfriend after the film was made. There was a 1997 sequel An American Werewolf in Paris that changed the werewolf lore and have the main character who becomes a werewolf be cured and not die at the end.
