2023-11-27 23:36:58 +0000 UTCLoved the reaction! It's impossible not to shed a tear at the end! The "aliens" at the end are actually evolved A.I.'s. When Joe said, "When humans are gone, we'll be the only ones left." He was right. Stanley Kubrick (director of "The Shining"), this was his film, but he passed away during the process. Thusly, Spielberg took over and finished the film. Kubrick had originally ended the film when David was stuck underwater, looking at the Blue Fairy. Spielberg wanted to give it a happy ending, so he added the scenes with the evolved A.I.'s and fulfilled David's wish. The short story it is based upon is only several pages and only covers the first half hour of the film.
