It's Alive (1974) *Reaction*

Leaving their son, Chris (Daniel Holzman), with a family friend (William Wellman Jr.), Frank (John P. Ryan) and Lenore Davis (Sharon Farrell) head to the hospital for the birth of their second child -- which turns out to be a mutant who kills many doctors and nurses as it escapes. Convinced his monstrous son must be destroyed, Frank ignores Lenore and Chris' pleas and tries to destroy the freakish progeny, unaware that the infant may be the blameless product of an experimental drug gone wrong.

You may think it is bad or cheesy, but I saw it with friends when I was 17 or 18 and it scared us to death. You watching it or these old movies in 2024 as a adult is such a different experience from kids watching it at the time these movies came out. You have to remember that sir :)

Thanks for reacting to this one David! Glad you loved John P. Ryan's performance! The baby was designed by the famous Rick Baker who would later do the makeup effects for THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN (1977), Michael Jackson's Thriller music video and of course he won the first Oscar for Best Make Up for AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981). The music score was done by the great Bernard Hermann, who did the music scores for several Alfred Hitchcock films such as VERTIGO (1958) and PSYCHO (1960). Before he scored IT'S ALIVE, he scored Brian De Palma's SISTERS (1973). Bernard Hermann's last two music scores were in 1976 for his second Brian De Palma film OBSESSION and Martin Scorsese's TAXI DRIVER. He passed away in 1975 but his two music scores for OBSESSION and TAXI DRIVER were both nominated for an Oscar but he lost to Jerry Goldsmith who scored THE OMEN. Bernard Hermann's IT'S ALIVE score would be re-used for for the 1978 and 1987 sequels.
