Using your phone at gas pumps is usually the culprit. Don't add your card number to your phone for easy access. Check the gas station card readers in the gas station before you stick your card in. Inside AND outside. They use faux readers to take your info and it usually goes overseas. And I would recommend using the tap payment on your card so you don't have to stick it in any card reader. Good thing about my Android is that it comes with a VPN installed. The Google Pixel is essentially the Android iPhone and everything is seamlessly integrated with a very similar interface.
