I was thinking that too in the original story in the story

jeff027

The issue of a public planet is that it will paint a huge neon sign target on that planet, it will also take a massive amount resources to fortify not only the planet but the entire system or else risk getting trapped on that planet, basically going underground would be best for him, likey if absolutely need a world within Ferengi space may work or a world faaar away from territory that want Gothic or his tech. Actually thinking about it, if this continues to follow similar points with the original story, Gothic may get some territory within the Klingon Empire

War sage

I see minos as off the books planet. I was thinking that like more of a public planet for the public to see After bajor joins federation

jeff027

It's possible as while Pressman may hate to admit it, him and Gothic do agree on the Federation banning the use of Cloaks and it's possible they may agree on other things aswell, also Gothic does have his own planet as he basically owns Minos

War sage

Hope this saving the people get Some points with Admiral Pressman or not His hatred for Augment? I’m hoping Gothic gets his own planet soon?

Using Temptress as a long term training vessel was never going to happen. I just thought it might give Gothic some cover. Besides I pretty sure Sisko and Starfleet on DS9 are doing a great job training Bajorans. One thing I always picked up in the series was that Sisko was an excellent trainer of personnel. I've always felt that if Gothic was going to put money in to the fleet infrastructure, like holodecks, rather than weapons was the way to go.

The reason I suggested the holograms was that was an episode of Voyager where did a similar set up to create fake ships to distract the attacker, I remember it cause some how when they turned it on the Doctor ended up floating in space lol I also wondering if such a system could be used to disguised the Flighty Temptress, though I guess unless Gothic can disguise the power and warp signature it may not work. To be honest how you fleshout the characters is one of the things i love about this version compared to the original one, and dispite the cast getting bigger and bigger your able to still throw in bits here and there.

Glad you liked it! Thank you for your support! :-)

I agree and it will allay their concerns about him having those capabilities as they will now benefit from it. And if he sells these ships to them, trusted state actors, he'll have customers that can't be objected to easily. Being useful and valuable to organizations like SI and S31 will provide him and his a lot of protection.

Joseph Orlando

James is right. Gothic didn't even know he was going to be there. So it's a pretty good excuse, all told. He would have been unexpected collateral damage. Thank you for your support! :-)

Joseph Orlando

I like to work in a little humor here and there. This is meant to be fun! Gothic is living the dream of so many Star Trek fans! I had a reader complain about Gothic having too much fun and sex and I pointed them to the story summary which makes it very clear what kind of SI fic this was going to be. Thank you for your support! :-)

I'm a bit more pessimistic on that front. The Federation has allowed the Romulans to get away with a lot of shit in canon. Yes, this would have killed some high level people, but I'm not sure it matters. It is certainly ironic. Of course they're claiming rogue actors, but it's typical Romulan bullshit. HA! I really like that and might have to steal it. :-P Thank you for your longtime support!! :-)

Joseph Orlando

It's unavoidable, even in the 24th century with AI help. But he's definitely got it easier than most military officers of his high rank. The Admirals of Starfleet would be jealous if they knew. SI are not quite to 31's level, but even 31 acknowledged they're a solid organization that do good work. That's canon dialog said by Sloan in DS9. There would have to be some level of cooperation to keep from stepping on each other's toes. Yes, Pressman is an SI person, he's used to working clandestinely, so S31 was uniquely positioned to keep him in check, the more public friendly conversations Picard is having are much more difficult to shut down as they're just talking. Getting involved would be much more difficult. Before, with just the FT being known, Gothic knew people were wondering about his manufacturing/shipbuilding capabilities. With the Defense Nets being offered and the unique cargo ships, well, the cat was mostly out of the bag. Now that this capability was all but confirmed, the best way to allay concerns with SI and S31 is to let them benefit from it. Become a valued partner and he will be much safer. They will have an interest in protecting him. Yes, what happens when Bajor joins the Federation has been on Gothic's mind for a while. IT didn't happen until the end of DS9 and the Prophets don't want it to happen until after the Dominion War, but it's something he needs to plan for. Great idea, but the technology for that might be a stretch. I'm not sure if canon Star Trek supports long-range holography. There were many engagements where he obtained Collector power cells, but the recent battle saw hundreds of Collector soldiers board and die on his ship, so sufficed to say, he's got a lot now. I'm glad. I'm trying to flesh them out more, but as the ensemble gets bigger and bigger, it's getting harder for certain characters to get screen time. Thank you for your longtime support of this story!!! :-)

Joseph Orlando

Yes, Gothic's actions in the solar system were too much for Q's magic/power to hide. Gothic knew this was a possibility. His fears were confirmed. Gothic can certainly use the Temptress in the defense of Bajor, but as a training ship it's really not suited. War Sage is right about that. They'd be much better served with basic training shuttles, or better yet, holosuites so that they can train new pilots on multiple ship types they might encounter. That's something Gothic can do as it's just an outlay of money to buy the holosuites. That's something I'm toying with. It'll have to be scaled back down to use on the ground as his transporter buffer/inventory has much lower limits than his ship. Thank you for supporting this story! :-)

Joseph Orlando

I agree. For highly suspicious people, like Gothic, very young children who are innocent and have no guile in them are loved and need to be protected. He protected a lot of children on Bajor during the Occupation and avenged them when he didn't get there in time. You don't get to that rank without knowing how to play the game. Prejudice can override that, to a degree, as it is inherently illogical. Did they, though? :-P Gothic didn't know he was even going to be there. Unfortunately, unavoidable. Gothic tries to make these exposures deliberate, a choice, but at times circumstances will make the decision for him. That is the question, isn't it, and the subject of future chapters. Thank you for supporting this story!

Joseph Orlando

Section 31 is a very practical organization and it doesn't matter if an idea comes from their enemies. They may still be skeptical, but if they see utility, they're not afraid to change/adopt new ideas. Of course, some changes have to be in line with the rest of the Federation, there is utility in that and some limits that they can't get around as a secret organization, but they're willing to learn and take good ideas onboard. Gothic might build them a ship, per their specs, but he's very, very careful and thoughtful on what technology he releases. For example, if he builds a ship with bioneural circuitry, he's going to build it per specs, even though he has access to superior bioneural technology. Thank you for supporting this story! :-)

Joseph Orlando

Gothic just needs a little cover from Federation scrutiny. Gothic doesn't need to have everyone one aboard his ship just rotate a small number it helps that many of the fleet officers were hand picked by Gothic. Also Gothic doesn't need to buy anything. Procurement isn't Gothic's job. Buying equipment is the Civilian governments job. Procurement also takes years even in the best circumstances.

red demon

Since Gothic revealed more of his tech to section 31, will they copy more of his modus operandi into their own organization? More automation in their ships to field more ships with less crew? Fully armored and shielded spec ops teams? Maybe gothic will add some special holo-character for holo-security on the ships he makes for them, that resonates with section 31. I look forward to how their relationship will evolve when more enemies are gunning for gothic.

andrew regalado

The problems with that is one Gothic is going to have to actually let them abroad his ship to train at some point, second he eventually have to purchase such assets, remember Gothic dosen't have the unlimited control over the fleet he had prior to the circle, he answers to the Bajoran government so they're going to expect seeing results from this training at some point and being in trouble with the Bajoran government is not something he needs, then even if he gets such ships the Cardassians and likey the Federation will start bitching

War sage

I was thinking Gothic would answer any questions to that by just saying it's training on advanced systems for any possible future acquisitions of the Bajoran Fleet.

red demon

Lily is so adorable Hmm Gothic may need to to 'punish' said daughter lol Damn that statue was awesome Wow Pressman the true politician. Sooo the Romulans just tried to not only assassinate Gothic, but a Starfleet Admiral in Starfleet Intelligence, the President of a Federation world and the dozens of other people in attendance Damn Gothic exposed more of his tech Though my question how did the bomb get there? Was it planted by the Agent or a member of the crew before their deaths or is there another ship or agent running around?

War sage

The problem is with the type of ships Bajor has in its fleet it doesn't really work as it's like training somone on a galaxy class so they can use a Runabout.

War sage

Excellent chapter. So Picard has started making inquiries into the Temptress. Not sure how Gothic can combat that. My guess is continue doing what he has been doing, try to keep his imagine clean. Maybe use the Temptress to train more Fleet personnel. Hard to complain when the ship is being used as a training ship. I liked the drones. Maybe modify one for close air support. I can't wait for them to get started on actual small craft for the Temptress.

red demon

Suffer the paperwork Gothic lol I love the intelligence aspect of these chapters so much, I was always curious about this side of the ST universe I knew Starfleet Intelligence would be impressed by the defense nets and that would gain Gothic some supporters in SI and I have always suspected some level of cooperation between S31 and key personal in SI. Shit, SI and Pressman could have been handled by S31 in certain ways but with Picard rasing concerns with his admiral friends....that's not good as it goes beyond candid conversations into more official channels and involves other branches of Starfleet like the Judge Advocate General and Starfleet Security doing their own looks and of course some branches like Starfleet Corps of Engineer's,  Starfleet Advance Technologies and Starfleet Research along with what ever research branches Starfleet has is likey if not already will soon be going over every scan of Gothic's ship and just his tech in general from trying to get an idea of how advance his tech is, any possible weaknesses along with trying to reverse engineering. I wondered when Gothic was going to offer the shipbuilding capacity of Minos to S31 though SI was a surprise. Yea what will happen when Bajor joins the UFP will be interesting for Gothic and I'm curious to see what his plans are. For the Flighty Temptress using the Drones in combat by adding external holo emitters to mix holographic drones with actual Drones to confuse enemy sensors? Damn how many power cells did Gothic retrieve? I also liked the look into Laruen background and the hint of Annika  with her parents.

War sage

Pretty bold move on the Romulan's part. If it had worked you probably killed the orbital defense company but now that it didn't I could see even the Federation standing up to them with at least setting aside their cloaking complaints with such an overt attack. It is still pretty funny they are crying about the Treaty of Algeron being violated just minutes after they got caught violating it. "What can you tell us about the bomb?" "... It's green"

maddsloth II

Yeah but trying to blow up a Federation planet government probably crosses a line or two. S31 and Star Fleet intel "Were were not targeting the Praetor, were were targeting the Senator a few feet away from him. We did not know the Praetor would be on the floor of the senate when our bomb went off."

maddsloth II

I like the tongue in cheek ending drama bit. It fits well with trying to keep things interesting for the entity audience Q hinted at. (Think Q might ha e been talking about us? Naaaahhhh!) Loved the chapter and looking forward to the next one!

James Wise

Nah they were targeting Admiral Pressman and/or President Moss and Gothic just happened to be in range of the explosive device! Happy coincidence for the Tal Shiar! 'How dare you' insinuate they were Targeting a known 'Do not Target' person of interest! Sigh. They are devious and manipulative Romulus, they always leave themselves an out if they can.

James Wise

Wait so the Romulans were told that Gothic was a protected by S31 and they still decided to do this? that's not going to end well for them

stephen lyman

I was wondering when Gothic would offer his shipbuilding to Section 31. They're the ideal client, after all, and making them stronger only helps Gothic.

John

wow that was a really great chapter! i love it and i can't wait to read what happens in the next chapter :)
