Advanced character rig (2/???)
Added 2019-02-06 11:58:02 +0000 UTCThis isn't really a chronologically accurate post, since this screenshot was actually taken more than 2 weeks ago (before I realized the wrists/shoulders/legs were kinda messed up at certain angles due to faulty twist extraction).
Nevertheless, the body rig was pretty much done at this point. There's no face rig yet so she's kinda expressionless, however this was more or less a test to see how much the rig could accelerate my ability to create fairly standard poses. I'm happy to say that it works quite well- way better that manually rotating hundreds of joints by hand.
It's actually kind of weird having taught the computer to automatically keep track of all this stuff- by implementing easy to use animation friendly controls, you can really start to focus on the posing itself and how things look rather than sitting around and fretting about stupid stuff like the helper joint rotations scattered throughout the model. Up until now I've never really had access to a fully featured character rig, but now that I do I can't imagine how I'd ever go back to the old way of doing things.
