Pretty Polly | Instrumental Run (right hand)

Here's the right hand playing that same gDGCD instrumental run as shown previously. This string of notes could probably be inserted into a number of other similar-sounding songs.

was there an answer to the question?

Hey Clifton, Alex again. Thanks for getting back to the tunings question. I'm looking for advice this time about using index or thumb for the second string. You suggest using your index finger for the bottom 2 strings and thumb for the top 3, this makes sense to me. With your arrangements it seems to work. I've played guitar for 20 years, and only picked up the banjo last sept, I'm able to play it well enough but I might have formed a bad habit with the first few songs I learned. One of the first 2 finger songs I learned was little maggie <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HY87CIgApQ" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HY87CIgApQ</a> taught by Aaron. If you were to play this song would you use your index instead of your thumb for the second string? Or is it song/arrangment specific. The reason I'm asking is because it seems to make sense to use your index as you say, and I'd like to keep improving and not impede my speed by using my thumb if that will be an issue going forward. So should I spend the time trying to re-progam my playing and maybe change the arrangment of the song? Thanks.

I did get a short chance to work on this today and I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. Short practice session today after work since my frets came in from amazon today and I got a crash coarse in installing new frets onto my 1920s Lyon and Healy restoration. After a few mashed fingers I was able to work on that damned ole 2 finger picking. Thanks Clifton
