"White House Blues" Performance

gDGBD, relative (tuned down to F)

"White House Blues/All You Fascists/Railroad Bill" (originally recorded by Charlie Poole in 1926). While, my version may sound similar to Poole's at first glance (we are both finger picking) I actually learned to play this tune and it's cousin "Lonesome Road Blues/Going Down This Road Feeling Bad" from George Gibson of Knott County, KY circa 1999-2000. I was pretty young when I learned these pieces from Gibson and it would be at least a decade before I ever heard Poole's 1926 recording or Guthrie's from the 1940s.

A lot of the left-hand finger work is interchangeable between several different songs and tunes--things can get confusing.

---------------------------------------------------------

I'm gonna tell you fascists you might be surprised

The people in this country we're getting organized

In Washington, In Washington

And I'm gonna tell you workers before you cash in your checks

They say "America First!" but they mean "America Next!"

In Washington, In Washington

CHORUS

All you fascists gotta die, all you fascists gotta die

Some day you gotta lay down and die

I'm going into battle gonna take up a union gun

I ain't gonna lay it down until every battle's won

In Washington, In Washington

CHORUS

Yes. I intend to interpret each of these songs to yall using a 'performance' video (like this one), a 'discussion' video (where I'll verbally explain how it's played) and at least 2 slow close-up clips.

Will there be a lesson/slow down of this one?

nice closure to the tune :)

Love this tune! 'This machine kills fascists,' the machine is banjo.

Very soon! I just realized that I still need to do close-ups and a quick talk on "Cumberland Gap" that I posted a few days ago. We will wrap up that piece today and tomorrow hopefully and then get into "White House Blues" etc.

Woody also used that as the basis for "Mister Charlie Lindbergh." Great tune. So when are we going to work on playing up the neck?
