Isn't overhand and clawhammer the same style of playing?

Tom Nelson

I don't. Will have to do that sometime. I learned it from George Gibson when I was very young, and he played it overhand I remember.

Clifton Hicks

Hi Clifton -- do you happen to have an overhand/clawhammer version of this lesson?

Nick

Are you able to play any of that stuff yet, Louie? Any of these tunes I show yall can be played overhand, two-finger or up-pick, so you can totally "claw" this one if you're not ready to fingerpick it yet. I should mention that I first learned to play this straight overhand style from George Gibson who also plays it overhand a lot.

Clifton Hicks

Great tune, great lesson. Cheers buddy.

Thanks for the clear explanation. I just played through this song several times. I like learning more about two finger picking. These banjo licks work for a lot of other songs - like Stagolee.

Robert T. Gibney

Hey Preston. Thanks for the lesson. I especially appreciate it as I've been working on Goin Down the Road Feelin Bad lately. The up the next stuff was very insightful. Maybe sometime in the future you could do a similar session involving minor chords. Sometimes i struggle finding an up the break if the song contains a minor chord in its basic structure. Thanks!!!
