How to Tack a Banjo Head

A few of yall are running into the same troubles I had when I first tried to make a tackhead banjo. Mounting the head on one of these contraptions is fairly challenging and nuanced--hopefully this short video will spare you the agony of a busted or loose banjo head.

Good question. As a personal rule I will always put them hair side out--but I really don't think it matters. Some hides you can't hardly tell which side is which anyhow.

One thing you didn't touch on was the hair side of the skin facing out? Does it even matter? I have only put a goat skin on one mountain banjo and it turned out perfect the very first try. Won't be as fortunate next time probably. Anyway as smooth as this piece of rawhide was on both sides I don't think the appearance of flesh side out would have been visually objectionable. Just wondering

I keep commenting on youtube forgetting this is patreon content :p Your method sounds like it's less of a headache than the ways I've read how to do it. Thanks a lot mate!

I Wondered how to do this part. Thanks, Cliff!

Thank you!

Glad to hear it. We want to see your tackhead banjo when she's done.

You sir have saved me a headache or two! I’m in the planning stages of a tack head and this little video has answered a lot of things I was planning on learning as I went. Thanks
