Living Music & the Story of Amédé Ardoin

Comments

That Devil Song is an odd one. People either love it or hate it. My wife can't stand it, but the last time I visited my father he and I sat knee-to-knee and laughed ourselves half to death singing it.

Ya got me in trouble about 530 this morning, having coffee listening to you play Devil Song and busted out laughing so loud I woke up the people and got hollered at !!!

David Steel

So, I gotta tell ya,

David Steel

Yes different types of music, bagpipes make me cry, Scottish blood in me I guess, an awesome vocalist, a really great violin Solo or Yo Yo Ma playing pretty much anything. Sometimes Patsy Cline

I was addicted to blues music for many years and rock. Since early childhood music has been my closest friend and comforter. I find peace, comfort and sometimes, often, there's a sense of comraderie or a deep soul connection in these songs and they often become "friends" in a way. I feel a connection to the author, composer.

David Steel

I think music in general has long been the "go to" when we're sad, blue, bummed out, hurt, suffering loss, etc.

David Steel

It certainly seems that way for me and for several other musicians I know. And not just banjo players.

Clifton Hicks

Do you mean that you think people with heavy hearts and with heavy struggle in their lifes tend to be drawn to singe old time-banjo pickning? I agree that the music speaks right in to your soul. Maybe its because life is kind of hardcore and the music reflects that? I havent seen it like that before. Thanks for very interesting reflections on this. Sorry for poor english /swede

I've been playing Wild Bill Jones non-stop for a week. I thought of the melody of the Cuckoo and BAM it just played itself! Might be worth learning Wild Bill Jones in lieu of a Cuckoo lesson.

Came across this a couple of days ago: <a href="https://youtu.be/WyIbUD5_7Ko" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://youtu.be/WyIbUD5_7Ko</a>

Thanks, Jordan. I used to subscribe to Oxford Am. What an amazing artist he was... THAT VOICE. Reminds me of Roscoe Holcomb crossed with Matt Kinman.

Hi Clifton, here's an article about Ardoin from the Oxford American: <a href="https://www.oxfordamerican.org/magazine/item/244-amede-ardoin-accordion-virtuoso" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.oxfordamerican.org/magazine/item/244-amede-ardoin-accordion-virtuoso</a>

Wow, thanks for sharing that. I love the description about the music. Good summary of what draws me as well.

Really like the combo of music, stories, history, and lessons. I guess that's all part of it. Or at least it should be. Lol. Speaking of lessons, the Cuckoo, would be a great one for the future. But I'm sure it's probably already on you ever growing list.
