Added 2018-09-25 22:34:21 +0000 UTCMy first attempt at a "minstrel" banjo inspired by an example from the Banjo Database http://www.banjodatabase.dreamhosters.combuilt by William Boucher himself circa 1850. Mine has a 13" pot and an extra long neck. Entirely handmade by myself and partner, Robyn.

I started putting an internal tensioning system on my banjos so I can play them for my wife's family when we go back to visit them at her grandmas farm. Without that, it's like trying to play something that sort of sounds like a wet paper bag with strings on it

2018-10-04 13:55:08 +0000 UTCTo complicate matters further, I recently sold a tack head banjo to a guy in Asheville, NC where average humidity is considerably higher than here at my home on the GA-TN line. So I researched my customer's average humidity and waited until my own humidity was at THAT level before tacking the hide. For me, this is complicated scientific stuff!

2018-10-01 13:53:44 +0000 UTCHey Clifton, when you get back from Athens, I was wondering if you might demonstrate or talk about the process of attaching a hide to this banjo. Assuming you haven't already mounted it or you don't already have a video somewhere that I just haven't found yet. I'm getting ready to make my first tackhead and I'm curious how you attach the head. I did a little digging online and it seems that there are several ways people do it. I have a really nice hide I bought from Jeff Menzies and I don't want to mess it up!
