gDGCD, relative (fCFB♭C, actual) aka "Pretty Polly" or "G Modal" tuning. I learned this tune from George R. Gibson of Knott County, Kentucky.

This is one of the only pieces that I've never heard George sing with. He always plays it very fast with heavy rhythmic brushing (what I call fanning) up and down the neck of the banjo--he calls this technique "walking the fingerboard." I've also heard George refer to this catchy, rhythmic style as a "dance lick" or "the square dance shuffle."

(Played on a rare English banjo made c. 1870)

Depending on the tuner, it will show either Bb or A# for the same note. Confusing.

Hey Clifton, I'm somewhat new to the banjo and don't have any idea about the technical music stuff. I do know my voice is close to yours and I like the sounds of the down tuning. My dilemma is that i cant find Bb (B flat?) on my tuner when I try to match your tuning. Is that something that a new tuner will help with? Thanks!

I like that fan strum you do. I learned a basic version of this on BanjoLemonade last year. It will be cool to put some of your fancy stuff in it. Thanks Clifton. SOOO much to learn.
