1890s Luscomb banjeurine with 13" solid brass rim and hardwood tone ring--all original hooks & shoes--original patent tuners freshly cleaned and in good working order. Mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard; this is a fine antique instrument designed for playing guitar-style "classical banjo" pieces composed at the turn of the century.

"Luscomb of Boston Mass. was a well known banjo soloist and composer in the 1890s... He designed the banjo bearing his name which, with its patented hoop, 'was constructed on entirely new and scientific principles...' The pot of this banjo is made of bell metal with a fairly narrow inside ring of wood on which the head rests to promote 'a most wonderful sound...' The instruments were made and sold by Thompson & Odell Co. of 523 Washington Street, Boston, Mass. from about 1891 to the late 1920s." (from http://pickerssupply.com/)
