I know I say it all the time, folks, but I absolutely _love_ this banjo! Beautiful wood marquetry fret markers (that are actually in the correct positions), relatively early hardware, worn-out signature inside the pot,  fancy *bone* tuning pegs, a beautifully detailed tail piece and just a _great_ sounding, easy playing instrument.

We think this was made in New York, probably around 1880 and possibly in the infamous Buckbee factory itself. The German silver spun-over rim and closed-ended tension nuts on this thing look relatively early to me. The hand writing inside the pot was rendered in black ink and consists of several words, the only legible one reads "Bishop."

Whoa--that tailpiece is smoking. And the way those fret markers sidestep up and down the fretboard? Super cool.

This one went for about $800, with shipping and insurance. Years ago I suppose is could have brought $900 or more, but the antique banjo market is somewhat depressed in recent years.

If I can ask, how much did you sell it for? If you don’t want to answer, that’s ok.
