Unusual Pine Folk Art Banjo

This unusual folk art banjo appears to be made of hard, close-grained pine. The bottom-mounted brass hardware looks like another alternate of R. McManus' 1879 patent. A modern luthier has added the flush-fret rosewood fingerboard, tailpiece, bridge, nut & tuners. This banjo plays nicely but will receive a new head & bridge before I upload video of it.

1-ply pot with binding strips inside.

We tend to favor lighter banjos. This pine banjo with its thin rim ain't anything to write home about. I'm hoping that a new hide & bridge will make it talk a bit better.

Do you think the thickness of the pot and the hardness of the wood affect the tone much? I've nearly finished my second block rim banjo. l made the top out of the hardest wood l could find here {South Australia} Myall. I'm curious because a lot of the old banjos you play seem fairly light but have a nice tone. Cant wait to here this one. Thanks.

Is the pot 2-ply and the tensioners only clipped onto 1 of the ply at the bottom?
