"Tribulations" by E.C. Ball | Performance with Bo Wilkey

Next post should be the lesson & tab for "Ida Red." In the mean time, a surprise visit from neighbor Bo Wilkey yielded this (timely?) performance of "Tribulations" by E.C. Ball of Rugby, Virginia. Let me know if you'd like a lesson/tab on this one in the future.

Banjo is tuned fA#FA#C (actual), gCGCD (relative).

Trials troubles tribulations

Such has never been before,

When the angels pour upon us

Their vials of wrath forevermore.

Chorus:

When the fire comes down from heaven

And the blood shall fill the sea,

I'll be carried home by Jesus

And forever with him be.

The Beast with horns will come upon you

One with seven one with ten,

Men will cry unto the mountains

They'll pray to die but cannot win.

The mark must be upon your forehead

These worldly goods you then can buy,

"Depart from me, I never knew you!"

You'll hear my blessed Savior cry.

Jessica, will certainly cover it in a future lesson. FYI, it's gCGCD and I played the whole song on the 2nd fret.

Cliff ...Hi how are you? Hope this comment finds both of you well. On the 5th String Question from me. Is it an F or a G. My choice is F. It just sounds better. Keeps that drone feeling. Isn’t there a banjo string name with a similar name? Ernie Ball Strings? Any relation to the charming couple who did this tune in 1959. E.C. Ball and Orna Ball? This is my first singing song and what lyrics they are. It is so extreme as I understand the Book of the Bible Revalations is. Raised Catholic we weren’t allowed to read it, so the lord has spared me from that endless list of long words and weird connotations. What’s the forehead thing about? Is it like Ash Wednesday? This is the kind of song that make me glad to be going to Jewish services now. I can wait to hear the Rabii’s take on Revelations. I love the tuning. This song is so easy to sing ... but when? Maybe I should start a banjo roadshow at the non-used theater because of the virus.

Heck yeah! That's some old-timey soundin', toe-tappin music
