"C.C. Rider" Performance

Hey everybody! This song has never been requested here, but one of my 13-year-old students asked me to do it, so here it is. I'll be putting up the lessons/tabs you've requested ASAP.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I learned "C.C. Rider" (See See Rider, Easy Rider) from recordings of Big Bill Broonzy, Lead Belly, Ma Rainey, Mance Lipscomb, and Mississippi John Hurt. My instrument is an 1890s Fairbanks "Companion Style C" banjo. Tuning is gCGCD (relative), f B♭F B♭C actual.

C.C. Rider see what you have done,

You made love you now your man has come! (x3)

If I hadn't listened to my second mind,

I wouldn't have been sitting here wringing my hands and crying! (x3)

No more potatoes frost done killed the vine

The blues ain't nothing but a woman on your mind! (x3)

If I hadn't listened to my second mind,

I would've been way down in Mexico (x3)

One of the best tunes ever--and real simple!

Thanks. I love doing early bluesy numbers on the banjo. Feels like a "missing link."

Thanks, John. Did you hear Hurt sing it live? As a very young child in Savannah, GA, my dad played John Hurt records nonstop--and at high volume! Our nextdoor neighbor, who was very nice to me, also happened to look exactly like him, and I remember believing the two were the same man. My dad (who is a member here) actually met John Hurt in the early 60s and has a very interesting story about him...

Seriously though, Clifton, you've got the blues voice down pat. I've heard Mississippi John Hurt sing and play it, too.

John L Schneider

And here I thought it was a rock song from the 60s!!!

John L Schneider

This is another outstanding contribution to history education and traditional banjo culture!

Al Neale

That's a great tune! Great sound and great singing too.
