I only recognize it because people have pointed it out when I say it. Yess, there are common cultural traits along the east coast of dialect, food, etc., Just like along appalachia.

😅 I never noticed before. Half my family are from the eastern shore of Virginia (Accomack County) and have been there since the 1690s. I've noticed a lot of similarities in their speech to that of people as far south as Jacksonville, Florida, and as far north as Maine. For example, when my father first hitch-hiked into southwestern Virginia during the early '60s, local people often assumed that he was from England.
