Drunkard's Doom (At the Close of Day) Lesson

I learned "The Drunkard's Doom" (I Saw a Man at the Close of Day) from Matt Kinman in Watauga County, North Carolina. My instrument is a fretless gourd banjo by Jeff Menzies, tuned d♯CFB♭C ~  fDGCD.

Thanks, James. I keep my tuners at 440 these days, and *try* to digital tune for each video.

For my own records to play along: A440 eb-C-F-Bb-C (basically what Clifton said)

I think that's purely an artistic visual element. You see it on some very early banjos.

The mid neck on that fretless is very wide - does this help with playing somehow? What is the reason for it?
