"Don't Go Riding Down That Old Texas Trail" Lesson

I learned "Don't Go Riding Down That Old Texas Trail" (gDGBD) from a recording of Lawrence Eller (banjo & vocals), Vaughn Eller (guitar), and Ross Brown (fiddle).

I will order a book thank you, I am also going to try it in that tuning you mentioned, awesome! In standard I have made it through most of the beginning but I wasn’t happy with it honestly. That’s rad you figured that one out, I’d be glad to hear you play it some day. Such a cool unique piece of music

I sat down years ago and figured out this song in ~ gDGBD. I encourage you to purchase a banjo chord book; this will help you come up with the chord shapes used in these old recordings. I have a good one called Banjo Case Chord Book by Larry Sandberg. It's designed to fit in your case, and it has a ton of chord charts in different tunings. FYI a professional banjoist accompanying this song in the 1920s would likely have used gCGBD. As I said, however, I figured it out in gDGBD. It requires a couple of chord shapes not typically found in the pre-war banjo songster tradition.

I’ve got a question concerning particular songs, I was trying to use the songster method to figure out this old tune by Luke Jordan named cocaine. It’s got great lyrics repeating here n there but there’s also a lot of lyrics that sound completely different from the rest. How would one go about figuring out music to such a complicated song?

Another great one. I need more practice matching the banjo notes to my voice but wonderful stuff as always.
