I learned "Ruby Ridge" by Peter Rowan from his 1996 album, Bluegrass Boy.
My instrument is an 1886 Buckbee archtop banjo tuned fCFAC ~ gDGBD. Lesson & tab coming soon!
I'll tell you a story not long ago
High on a mountain in Idaho,
In Idaho I was living free
Until I sold a shotgun to a deputy.
CHORUS
Don't shoot me down!
Don't shoot me down!
I got a wife and kids on Ruby Ridge
Please don't shoot me down!
They killed my dog they killed my boy
My only son my pride and joy,
They killed my wife dead on the floor
Holding our baby by the cabin door.
If you take a notion and you want to go
High on a mountain in Idaho,
In Idaho you'll be living free
But don't sell no shotguns to the deputies.
"U.S. Marshals encountered Harris, along with Weaver's 14-year-old son Sammy, in woods near the family cabin. A shootout took place. Deputy U.S. Marshal William Degan, Sammy Weaver, and the Weavers' dog Striker all died as a result. In the subsequent FBI-led siege of the Weaver residence, Weaver's wife Vicki was killed by FBI snipers... Harris surrendered and was arrested on August 30, while Weaver and his three daughters surrendered the next day...
"Both the Weaver family and Harris brought civil suits against the U.S. government. The Weavers won a combined settlement in 1995 of $3.1 million. Harris was awarded a $380,000 settlement in 2000."
