"Midnight Special" Performance (Feat. Aaron Stevens)

We learned "Midnight Special" from a recording of Huddie William "Lead Beally" Ledbetter.  Aaron Stephens of Monteagle, Tennessee, on 1920s Cincinnatus guitar. My instrument is an 1888 Thompson & odell "The Luscomb" banjo tuned eBEG♯B ~ gDGBD.

Yonder come Miss Rosie
How in the world did you know?
By the way she's walking
And the clothes she wore.

Umbrella on her shoulder
Piece of paper in her hand,
She come to ask the governor
To turn loose her man.

If you're ever in Atlanta
Boy you better do it right,
You better not squabble
And you better not fight.

Police will grab you
And they'll bring you down,
Next thing you know
You're prison-bound.

Wake up in the morning
When the big bell ring,
March you to the table
You see the same damn thing.

Knife and fork on the table
No food in my pan,
If I make a complaint
I'll get in trouble with the man.

Does anyone know if the guitar is in a different tuning and the chords?

Hey Clifton, awesome tune. I’m just getting into the banjo after being interested for a long while - any chance you’ll do a lesson for this song? Was always one of my favorite folk songs, i really like Willie Watson’s take if you’re familiar, and of course lead belly’s. Regardless, good to be a part of the community here now and glad to be supporting someone like yourself.

This one has been done so many times, and in so many genres. Will always be a classic, good job.

Most enjoyable. Catchy melody Simpel easy to remember lyrics that paint pictures. An old song that will never be forgotten.
