"Coon Hunt Walkaround" Lesson

My tuning is eAEG#B (actual) ~ gCGBD (relative). This tune first appears in one of Frank Converse's banjo tutors dating to the 1860s. I first heard it played at a Civil War reenactment in Florida, circa 1999. My own version, developed by ear, is similar to Converse's original notation.

I always play with the lower tuning (in this case eAEG#B) as this matches my voice. That lower tuning is also the one printed in the original sheet music from 1865. The higher tuning (gCGBD) is listed because all modern tablature books, and most modern players, use the higher tuning. The picking and fingering is the same in either tuning, as they are 'relative' to one-another.

When you list the actual and relative tunings, what one do you play with and what is the purpose of listing them?
